I downloaded Zappa Rehearsals 1980-02-10 UMRK, Los Angeles off EZT a while back and this was in the info file:

The great Rehearsals with Vinnie Colaiuta on Drums. Too bad he asked for too much money !
But thats another story - see "In his own words " or other publications.)
David Logeman sucked; but Vinnie was too greedy !
The Spring 1980 tour would be much more appreciated, if VC had played the drums.
As FZ had to replace him at short notice, the best we got was DL.
Whatitused2be posted another rehearsal earlier today..this 1 is the last before 1....

I assume this guy is talking about some kind of zappa auto B, but I don't know. I figured the endless vault of drummer knowledge contained within this forum would provide answers. I guess I just get a little bent out of shape when I hear bad things said about Vinnie.

Vinnie only asked for what he was worth. He was getting into the recording scene and that was much more lucrative for him. He already did some big tours with Z.
Plus Zappa rehired Vinnie for the fall shows of that year, most likely paying him what he wanted.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">What bad things? Everyone is entitled to ask for compensation as they see fit. If Vinnie was asking for more money, it was probably due to the fact that he was being offered as much or more to do something else. As a side-man, you do not make any money from publishing or record sales - just your weekly salary while you're playing (or in some cases, from a retainer when not touring). Everyone needs to look out for number one.

You said a mouth full, dsop.

Don't even get me started.

...Not refr'g to those concerned in this topic, but on a similar note: I love these guys that expect all for themselves, but don't afford you the same luxury [within reason - a big, broad def] - IOWs/AKA the double standard. They expect to be treated & live in a professional biz world but don't want to afford the other guy the same respect.

Balancing your ethic, personal, & musical life with the business can sometimes be precarious at best.

You have to be careful to not be taken [or, for less than you are worth].

I agree with dsop. No one else in this world is watching out for you as well as you.

Everyone has the right to ask for what they think they are entitled to. A closed mouth don't get fed... it's not a business where being nice gets you as far as being savvy. But, if you can be both, then

That's what i meant by bad things "drumming sort of person".
I didn't write that some other guy did. I'm on the same page as you guys in regards to numero uno.
I just hate when people don't read the posts carfully enough and then send some bad additude your way.

Over this weekend, I watched some
Vinnie, with Karizma.

He can ask whatever he wants.
